Engineering activities are continuing for the CCT Locally Preferred Alternative. These activities include:

  • Civil – involves determining the elements that make up the typical section of the transitway – lane widths, sidewalk and trail locations, curbs and other drainage elements - as it runs adjacent to or in the median of existing roadways, setting the horizontal and vertical alignments, and determining the Limit of Disturbance (LOD) for the transitway. Limits of Disturbance are the areas that are impacted by construction and operation of the CCT.

  • Stations – finalizing station locations and determining the amenities at each platform such as canopies, signage, ticket vending machines, lighting, and seating. Access to and from the station to the surrounding neighborhoods is studied to determine if additional pedestrian and bicycle facilities are needed.

  • Structures – design of new bridge structures and retaining walls along the transitway as well as modifications to any existing structures in the corridor such as culverts that may need to be extended.

  • Stormwater Management – involves the design of ponds, swales, and other bio-retention devices to treat runoff to mitigate adverse water quality and/or quantity impacts associated with new impervious surfaces created by the CCT. The management of stormwater runoff is necessary to reduce stream channel erosion, pollution, siltation and sedimentation, and local flooding, all of which have adverse impacts on water and land.   • Traffic –analysis of future traffic volumes, both with and without the CCT, to determine what impact, if any, the project will have on existing roads and sidewalk network. The CCT must be developed in a manner which maintains a safe and efficient environment for buses, motor vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. New or modified traffic signals, signing, pavement marking, and lighting for the CCT and any adjacent impacted roadways will be designed as part of this effort. The Vissim model is being used on the CCT project as a traffic analysis tool.

  • Utilities – involves identifying underground and overhead utilities – electric, water, gas, fiber optic - that may be impacted by the transitway construction, coordinates with the appropriate agencies, and designs the relocation of utilities that are impacted by the CCT.

The LOD established from these efforts will be used to help determine right of way needed and to calculate environmental impacts.
